Welcome to the following new superintendents!
Millard Public Schools - Dr. Jim Sutfin
Dr. Sutfin moved to Millard West High School as an Advanced Placement Biology teacher, Student Council sponsor, and assistant track coach. He later served as the science department head before moving to Russell Middle School as Assistant Principal. After serving three years as Assistant Principal, Dr. Sutfin was promoted to Principal at Central Middle School. He served in this capacity for five years earning the Region II Principal of the Year Award in 2006.
Dr. Sutfin moved to the Central Office in 2006 as the Director of Human Resources and was promoted to the Executive Director of Human Resources three years later. As the current Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, Dr. Sutfin oversees all aspects of Human Resources as well as the District Activity, Staff Development and Student Services programs.
Dr. Sutfin is married to Julie Sutfin who is also a career educator. Together they have two children. Brady is a junior at Millard West High School, and Tessa is a seventh grader at Russell Middle School. Dr. Sutfin believes that he works in the greatest profession in the world and looks forward to serving the school district as its next Superintendent.
Blue Springs School District - Dr. Jim Finley
Dr. Finley started his education career as a teacher at Harrisonville High School before coming to the Blue Springs School District in the fall of 1994. He has been with the Blue Springs School District for 20 years serving in many areas: Social Studies Teacher, Coach, Assistant Principal, Associate Principal, Principal, Assistant Superintendent – Community/Student Services, Assistant Superintendent – Administration, and Deputy Superintendent – Administration. The district followed a long-standing practice of promoting from within, which has contributed to attracting and retaining a very talented and high performing staff.
Canyons School District - Dr. James Briscoe
Dr. James Briscoe was selected as the new superintendent for Canyons School District effective July 1, 2014. Dr. Briscoe has served as an educational leader in public education for the past 32 years in the Chicago and Milwaukee metropolitan areas. He served as a middle school teacher, dean of students, and high school assistant principal for 11 years; a high school principal for nine years; and a superintendent for 12 years. Dr. Briscoe served the past six years as superintendent of DeKalb Community Unit School District 428, located in DeKalb, Ill. During his tenure in DeKalb, he worked closely with the Board of Education, administration and staff to build an $80 million high school and upgrade several facilities. In addition, the U.S. Department of Education visited the DeKalb School District to observe its implementation of Response to Intervention (RtI), and most recently, DeKalb High School was ranked in the top 10 percent of all high schools in the United States by U.S. News & World Report.
Dr. Briscoe is very excited about becoming part of the Canyons School District. He plans to be highly visible and accessible to families, students and staff. More importantly, he will continue to support the outstanding initiatives and innovative programs that have been created during the first five years of the establishment of Canyons School District.
